Debunking the Ridiculous ‘Online Poker is Rigged’ Argument

online poker is rigged

If online poker is rigged, my name is Santa Claus. Look, I get it that sometimes it seems like poker sites are out to get you. Believe me, I’ve been there before. There have been times where it seemed like every time my opponents were chasing a draw, they would hit. Or, every time I had pocket Aces, they would suck out. I would curse the site and swear the cards were rigged.

So I know how you’re feeling. The truth is the sites aren’t rigged. At least not sites such as Bovada, Carbon Poker, Party Poker, 888 Poker, and others. When online poker players hit a bad run of cards, their initial instinct is to cry foul. I understand that. I can honestly say I’ve done that many times. However, poker is a game of ups and downs. It doesn’t matter if you’re playing online or in a casino. There will be stretches where it seems like the deck is stacked against you.

Another factor to consider is the amount of hands you see online versus offline. At a live poker table you will have about 20 hands per hour dealt to you. Online, that average is close to 80, and that’s if you only play 1 table at a time. For those that multi-table, you will see even more hands per hour. More hands = more opportunities for a bad beat.

If online poker is rigged I underestimate a programmer’s talents

Programming a website isn’t an easy task. So I have the utmost respect for those that are able to build even simple websites such as High Stakes Report. Online poker sites require far more complex than our website, which means it would require some nearly impossible skills to figure out a way to rig the cards.

Online poker sites such as Party Poker (and every site we recommend) use a random number generator to deal the cards. That means the cards are dealt purely at random to everyone. These RNG’s are tested by technicians that have no affiliation with any online poker site.

Many think online poker is rigged when going through a bad stretch. Sometimes the reason is poor play. Other times the reason is the cards simply haven’t been kind. Either way, the game isn’t fixed against you. Stop worrying about poker sites being rigged. Focus on playing well and I guarantee you the big wins will be there, especially on these easy poker sites.
