The list of 2014 Poker Hall of Fame nominees is headlined by Daniel Negreanu (“KidPoker” on PokerStars). Negreanu’s name doesn’t come as a surprise to most in the poker community, but a couple of names on the list might. Mike “The Mouth” Matusow is a controversial poker figure. Matusow, unquestionably a great player, isn’t what most consider a prototypical hall of fame candidate. The entire list is as follows:
- Chris Bjorin
- Humberto Brenes
- Bruno Fitoussi
- Ted Forrest
- Jen Harman
- Bob Hooks
- Mike Matusow
- Jack McClelland
- Daniel Negreanu
- Huck Seed
You can view more information about these players by going to our famous poker players page. A poker player becomes eligible to be one of the Poker Hall of Fame nominees upon reaching age 40. This year’s list of Poker Hall of Fame nominees is a bit “light” compared to other years. Negreanu is the clear-cut favorite to be enshrined. However, many poker players are rooting for Jen Harman as well because she is arguably the best female poker player of all-time.
It would be fitting for Harman and Negreanu to enter the Hall of Fame at the same time. It’s no secret that these two poker superstars are long-time close friends. Ted Forrest is another player on the list of Poker Hall of Fame nominees that deserves much consideration. Forrest is one of the best Stud players of in history. Forrest owns 6 World Series of Poker bracelets, with his most recent during the 2014 WSOP. He dominated Phil Hellmuth heads-up to claim the $1,500 Razz bracelet. It was Forrest’s first bracelet since 2004.
Poker Hall of Fame Nominees’ Fate Determined By 21 Players, 20 Media Members
The fate of these nominees rests upon the vote of 21 active poker players and 20 members of the poker media. Votes must be cast by October 10. Those inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame will be honored on November 9, which coincides with the start of the WSOP November 9.
Jennifer Harman and Mike Matusow Two Hotly Debated Potential Inductees
Because of Mike Matusow’s big mouth, he tends to rub people the wrong way. Therefore, he doesn’t get the credit he deserves. Don’t fool yourself. Mike Matusow is one of the best players in poker over the past decade. Matusow has 4 WSOP bracelets, has made multiple Main Event deep runs and has been successful in WPT events.
Jen Harman deserves serious consideration because she is one of the best poker players in the world, not just one of the best female players. Unfortunately, for Harman, she hasn’t run too well in the WSOP since the 2003 poker boom. She hasn’t won a bracelet since 2002. That could hurt her chances of being inducted. Despite failing to win a bracelet in a dozen years, Harman is a viable Poker Hall of Fame inductee.
