Despite his atrocious results just a weekend ago, Blom’s persistence paid off tremendously as he began to regain confidence and some of the cash he squandered during his latest sessions.
Earning the sum of over $135,000, Blom took on the opponents of Niki “RealAndyBeal” Jedlicka, Jeans89, and Rafi “refaelamit” Amit over on PokerStars this past Monday in the $100/$200 Pot-Limit Omaha games and won several crucial pots.
Although several of these players spend time partaking in heads-up battles, the six-max game variety was running with consistency and many regulars wanted a piece of the action. Blom was the recipient of the largest pot of the night, which came in at $126,754, in a three-way pot that included Ilari “Ilari_FIN” Sahamies and Amit. Contributing greatly to Blom’s bottom line, it had to be particularly relieving to finish on a high note.
Blom is certainly a very capable PLO player, but the absence of one of the game’s best, Phil Galfond, was arguably instrumental in Blom’s final results. Galfond, who has had amazing August at the Omaha tables on PokerStars, likely was taking a break to rest from the endless beating he delivered to Blom not too long ago.
Many of the railbirds of the high-stakes matches on PokerStars have been commenting on the swingy nature of Isildur1′s play, and whether or not he’ll be able to conjure any sustainability within such a high-variance environment.
In what may come as a surprise, Blom has been very successful in August, and despite a brief lapse in judgement over the weekend that cost him nearly $700,000, he’s been consistent in his pursuit to end the year ahead. So far in 2011, Blom has secured $550,000 in winnings in a mix of No-Limit Hold’em and PLO cash games.
It seems as though Blom has regained the form that procured him $400,000 just a few short weeks ago, against some of the world’s best in Ben “Sauce123″ Sulsky and Rui “PepperoniF” Cao.
But, if there was one person that could steal the spotlight from the always-exciting Isildur1, it was Canadian Phil “takechip” D’Auteuil.
D’Auteuil was the biggest winner on this occasion, rising up the ladder of top earners by raking in $226K. Making most of his money from endless hours of play and a tilted Ben “Ben86″ Tollerene, the game of $50/$100 PLO was his best friend, as he came back from multiple underdog situations to reel in massive pots.
Making a straight on the turn against a set, flopping a better two pair, and cracking Tollerene’s aces were the integral highlights of the session, and was enough to send Tollerene’s head spinning and into the losers bracket.
In smaller sessions, D’Auteuil also took favorable sums from both Sahamies and Blom, who also couldn’t take down takechip.
Included in the circle of winners was an unknown player, tr1cky7, who brought in a modest $39K. However, Sahamies and Jedlicka were also successful, finishing their nights up $100K and $34K respectively.
Amit and Tollerene were the scapegoats for much of the high-stakes players this evening, with Amit losing most of his -$100K in losses to Sahamies, and Tollerene’s -$87K giving happiness to Blom.
