Ivey, “sbrugby” Battle Continues…

Despite losing a quarter-million to Phil Ivey in their Omaha match, Brian “sbrugby” Townsend did not back down from their heads-up $300/$600 NL Hold’em game. It appeared as though Ivey would walk away from the winner from this game as well. But some good fortune for sbrugby towards the end of the match kept his losses from veering into the six-figure range.

A hand early on forecasted the excellent poker play that would ensue. A button-raise from Ivey and a call from sbrugby brought a 4♣ 5♦ 4♠ flop. Although a rag flop, it evoked big action as sbrugby led the flop with a bet of $3200. Ivey then raised it up to $10,800 only to have a reraise from sbrugby. The $40,000 bet covered Ivey’s stack and after some deliberation, Ivey folded his hand alloweing sbrugby to collect the $25k+ pot.

After some excellent poker play, the next hand played itself as sbrugby suffered a six-figure cooler. With a $5400 pre-flop reraise, sbrugby led the 2♥ 6♣ K♦ flop wit♥ a $7250 bet t♥at wa♠ ♣alle♦ by Ivey. T♥e K♠ on the turn saw an $18k bet from sbrugby followed by a minimum raise from Ivey.

Hand 4 Turn

A move all-in by sbrugby and a call from Ivey revealed sbrugby’s 2♠ 2♣ for Deu♣e♠ full only to be up♠et by Ivey’♠ ♥an♦ of 6♥ 6♠ for Sixes full. The set over set cooler had all the money in on the turn and no miracle Deuce fell on the river. Ivey raked in a monster $127k+ pot and had a big lead in the match.

This final big hand had sbrugby making a move on the turn and bailing out with a lucky river. After a long pause, Ivey finally made the call and was surprised to see sbrugby’s K♥ 4♣ for two pair. Kings and Fours were good enough to win sbrugby a $75k+ pot and Ivey left immediately following the disappointing hand. After being up much more, Ivey was still able to walk away with a nice win.
