Dan “jungleman12″ Cates often spends most of his time sitting and waiting for opponents to play him at a variety of stakes at heads-up No-Limit Hold’em. While both he and most of his competitors are aware that most action lies on Full Tilt Poker, even during peak hours it can be difficult and frustrating to receive very little action.

However, Cates was hit with a pleasant surprise, and on PokerStars he ran into an opponent who was not only willing to play him, but would also do so for an extended period of time.

Known as w00ki3z on PokerStars, Cates spent a large portion of his night playing heads-up No-Limit Hold’em and Pot-Limit Omaha against newcomer JayP-AA. At varying stakes of $50/$100 and $100/$200 respectively, Cates finished his 1,180+ hand session up $192,000, despite crushing his opponent JayP-AA to the tune of over $200K in their heads-up duel.

Despite Cates reputation as the best online heads-up No-Limit Hold’em player in the world, he still receives action occasionally. And usually when he does, he finishes on top. JayP-AA, despite at times showing strong resistance, ended up as just another casualty to Cates uncanny ability.

While JayP-AA was certainly a victim to Cates on this occasion, the unknown player has actually been running red-hot over the course of early April. Being up nearly $400K, his losses to Cates cut his earnings total in half. Add in JayP-AA’s play against Cates’ good friend Scott “urnotindangr” Palmer later on in the evening, and he’s now just about even for the year. JayP-AA finished with losses of over $380,000 last week.

Despite there being tons of action on PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker was still buzzing with action over on its high-stakes tables as well. The sparsely seen Erick Lindgren was busy winning tons of cash in the Mixed, Deuce-to-Seven and Omaha games, eventually to the tune of $121K. Although only up approximately $170K for 2011, his current earnings put him in good shape to finish with one of his best years online ever.

Frequent online players Gavin “gavz101″ Cochrane, Arbianight and the red-hot Gus Hansen all put forth great efforts to finish their nights in the black. They won $75K, $65K and $97K respectively.

These players seem to have put a hurting on some of the best PLO players at the moment, and this list includes Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond and Jared “harrington25″ Bleznick. Both players, who could be considered in the top 10 overall, had catastrophic nights at the virtual felt with losses of -$113K and -$225K respectively. Bleznick’s week has been absolutely disastrous, and Galfond, in the midst of digging out of a million dollar 2-7 Triple Draw “learning curve,” didn’t help his cause.

Bttech86 (-$61k) finishes the list of substantial losers for the evening.

More is coming from High Stakes Report in the near future.
