It didn’t take long for the action to heat up for Peter Eastgate’s World Series of Poker bracelet.
Back on Monday, the now-retired Eastgate decided his 2008 Main Event bracelet was “just lying around collecting dust,” and put it up for auction on eBay, with the proceeds going to UNICEF, of course. By Wednesday, poker bad boy Tony G had blogged that the bracelet would not only be his, but that he would fashion the most coveted gold in the game into a snazzy collar for his dog.
“Well, the plan is to get it adapted into a special collar for my trusted German Shepherd Zasko,” said Tony G in his Party Poker blog. “The ultimate dog bling – as my gladiator and protector he deserves to be kitted out in such style. “
By Friday, bidding had topped $50,000 and Tony G was blogging again. “Carry on bidding, this bracelet is going to go for six figures,” he wrote right next to a modified photo of Zasko in a WSOP collar. With four days and six hours until the end of auction, the current bid was $56,500.
Tony G doesn’t believe the eventual eBay sale demeans the value of a WSOP bracelet, and he claims to have no hard feelings towards former Team PokerStars Pro Eastgate. “I respect Peter’s decision to turn around and say that’s it – to each their own and hope that the money I give him for the bracelet goes to a good cause.”
Tony G, or Antanas Guoga on Hendon Mob, is one of the more outspoken players in poker. Always a tough seat in high stakes ring games, the pro out of Australia also has more than $4 Million in career tournament earnings. Tony G has a handful of scores in the $500,000 range on his resume, including wins in the 2005 The European Poker Championships in London and the 2006 Betfair Asian Poker Tour Singapore, but is still looking for his first WSOP win.
Tony G plays exclusively at Party Poker. Play with him every week in The Sunday Bike Ride, a bounty tournament costing only 25 points, with a knockout of Tony G earning a $640 ticket into the Party Poker Monthly Million.
