Over the past 36 hours, Gus Hansen has been on an absolute tear, winning over $700,000 at some of the highest stakes available on Full Tilt Poker.

Hansen has been more than willing to take on all competition, including the usual suspects, Patrik Antonius, Brian Hastings, and Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies. As of late however, the man who just recently picked up his first World Series of Poker bracelet has been taking apart his competition, to the tune of high six-figures.

The Danish pro and avid tennis player has been taking on a few new opponents as well. While both online grinders “grillarock” and Zi “Urindanger” Dang are certainly not new to the high stakes poker scene, rarely has Hansen been willing to sit down heads-up with either opponent. Over the past week though, the “Great Dane” has managed to profit over $550,000 from the aforementioned Dang brother, and over $100,000 from his new opponent grillarock. Each of the games have been different as well, with Hansen profiting in both $500/$1000 Pot-Limit Omaha capped, and $1000/$2000 Limit Razz.

While Hansen hasn’t been the most profitable player at Omaha this year, his ability to persuade competitors to play him at the mixed games simultaneously has worked out in his favor, and has turned out to be a very smart investment.

Before the month of September, Hansen was down over $2 million dollars at the nosebleed stakes. But thanks to his recent win at the World Series of Poker Europe, and his recent online upswing, Hansen is now close to being down only $1 million dollars for the year.

Online player “cadillac1944″, has also been on a tremendous heater over the past week. In a recent online session a few days ago, the so-called “high stakes fish” gathered over $500K in winnings during a Pot-Limit Omaha 9-max ring game. Yesterday afternoon, the online player also crushed who many consider to be the best Pot-Limit Omaha player in the world, Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond, to the tune of $328K. Actually if it weren’t for a late surge from Galfond, cadillac1944 would have ended up taking nearly $507K from Galfond.

Maybe the unknown online player isn’t the rich fish everyone assumed him to be.

Unfortunately, when there are huge winners, there are always huge losers. Those honors can be delivered to Mr. Tom “durrrr” Dwan, who was taken a barrage of beatings over the past week. Dwan lost over $650K at the online tables, over the span of 1,400 hands. His recent losses have allowed him to slide into 2nd on the online leaderboard for 2010, with Daniel “jungleman12″ Cates taking first place. Cates holds the lead with $3.6 million in profit earned, while Dwan sits as the runner-up with $3.1 million.

With those two sitting atop the online standings, it shouldn’t be long until we see what most have been waiting for, the resume of the Durrrr Challenge.

Take a look at the videos below for more high stakes action.

I guess Antonius doesn’t always have the nuts.

After not hitting over half the deck, I would have been on UBER tilt.
