It turned out to be quite a day in online poker that will certainly be remembered for a long time. The railbirds’ favorite player logged in countless hands during his enduring heads-up battles against three different opponents. And then the Swede met up against a fourth. Viktor “Isildur1″ Blom took on Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond on Full Tilt Poker in what turned out to be a matchup for the history books.
Their battle began with six-tables of $200/$400 No-Limit Hold’em that went on for over an hour-and-a-half as Galfond took down the nine largest pots that were played. But Blom also managed to rake in quite a number of big hands and would come out ahead with a $59K+ win. That’s when Galfond decided he’d had enough of Hold’em and Blom agreed to startup with Pot-Limit Omaha.
They started off with six-tables of $300/$600 Pot-Limit Omaha that saw three-and-a-half hours of back-and-a-forth action between both players. There were 18 pots played worth $200K or more of which Blom was able to win 10 versus Galfond’s eight. Blom jumped ahead $160K+ in the first 20 minutes before Galfond struck back over the next 55 minutes and was up over half-a-million. Through the next two hours, however, Blom went on a million dollar rush and was leading over $570K. After losing almost all of his lead, Blom was granted his request of higher stakes and left the $300/$600 tables with just a $6K win.
The game was now six-tables of $500/$1000 Pot-Limit Omaha and would continue for nearly four-and-a-half hours. Blom was ready for war as he bought in with $200K on all six tables against Galfond’s $100K stakes. It was looking good for Blom as the Swede was quickly ahead $250K+ within the first 10 minutes of play. But then Blom’s oscillating luck made a U-turn and never looked back. Galfond would first cross the million dollar mark two-and-a-half hours into the ultra high stakes action. Over the next couple of hours, Blom would desperately attempt a comeback as he jumped from table to table splitting up his stacks every time he was able to double up. But in the end, he finally threw in the towel after he was down to one table and seemingly the last $57K in his account.
It was quite a fortunate day for Galfond, to say the least. The final total in the $500/$1000 games showed Galfond with over $1.5 million in winnings. Combining the results from all three sessions against Blom, Galfond had booked an overall $1,490,197 win through 5,972 total hands of action. It was an entirely different story for the Swede. Summing up Blom’s day: he won half-a-mil, lost a mil, won half-a-mil, and then got nailed with a 1.5 million loss. Just another 12-hour day in the lift of an online poker phenom.
