It all started with a high stakes game of $300/$600 Pot-Limit Hold’em/Omaha. Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies went at it for just over 40 minutes on Full Tilt Poker Gaze. Fed up with the beats he was taking, Sahamies decided to call it quits for now and finished the session with a 161K+ loss to Dwan. The battle was won, but the war certainly wasn’t over as they would meet up again a little over two hours later to play on not one, not even two, but three heads-up tables of $300/$600 HA.
One would assume this type of matchup would lead to monster pots left and right. And it definitely did not dissappoint. At around the 100-minute mark, Dwan was up an impressive $363K+ on Sahamies as there was over one million dollars spread over three tables. But that number would shrink drastically when Sahamies won a $146K+ pot on table Gaze, followed by a $176K+ pot on table Dori, and finally a $175K+ pot on table Shaw — all in less than 10 minutes.
The quarter-million dollar swing seemingly rattled Dwan as he decided to quit the match while he was still ahead. He offered to play Sahamies later on in the day, but it appeared as though Sahamies was in need of some immediate action. In total, four 6-figure Hold’em pots were played in which Dwan won three, and nine 6-figure pots were played in the Omaha game where Dwan took down five of them. Despite Sahamies’ sick rush at the end of the second session, Dwan still managed a $47K+ win over his opponent in nearly two hours of three-tabling. Add that to his earlier $161K+ win and Dwan booked a total $208K+ win over Sahamies for the day.
