“wuddacooler” Takes Down FTOPS 2-Day Event; $418K Win

With a $600,000 guaranteed prize pool, nearly 700 online players put up $2,500 to take part in Event #13 of the sixth installment of the Full Tilt Online Poker Series. The play began 3PM eastern on Saturday, November 17th, and ended around midnight the following day. Only one Full Tilt Poker Pro made it to the final table in Aaron Bartley. His run at the grand prize fell short when he busted out in 6th place for a $78K+ win. The remaining five players were all guaranteed a six-figure pay day, with first taking home over $418K.

Heads-up play began with “wuddacooler” holding just over a 300K chip-lead over ”Kongsgaard” and roughly 3.4 million total chips in play. These two players would show extreme aggression on the very first hand of heads-up play as they were quickly all-in, both holding Ace-King. “Kongsgaard” was suited but unfortunately, no player hit a miracle flush and play continued. The next big hand came around 20 minutes later on the 49th hand of heads-up play.

With the big pots seemingly being played more and more, a big all-in confrontation was sure to take place any hand. And that’s exactly what happened just four hands later. On heads-up hand 66, which would prove to be the final hand, the players managed to get it all-in.

After “Kongsgaard” aggressively moved all-in holding the , “wuddacooler” made the call with as he currently had about a 2.4 – 1 chip-lead over his opponent. It was a $157K+ coin-flip. The flop gave “Kongsgaard” an additional four outs to a straight. The on the turn just added more suspense as “Kongsgaard” added eight more outs to hit a flush. Even with only one card remaining, “wuddacooler” was still only a 61% to 39% favorite as “Kongsgaard” would need an Ace, King, Ten, or Spade on the river.

2nd Place – Kongsgaard ($261,750)

The on the river, however, only added insult to injury as “wuddacooler” would make an unnecessary set to win the final hand with a set of Fives. “Kongsgaard” would earn $261K+ for his impressive effort, while “wuddacooler” earned the top price of $418,800.
