November 9th was the starting date for this year’s WSOP Circuit tournament in Northern Nevada. The tournament will be a two week event and this will be the fourth consecutive year it has taken place. It is being held at the Harvey’s Hotel and Casino Resort on Lake Tahoe. The tournament will run until November 18th and will be ten events.
The first event had an astounding 484 players entered and with a $340 buy-in the prize poll was over $140,000. Last year the event only had 363 players. The buy-ins for the ten events range from $175 plus $25 to $5,000 plus $150. Second chance tournaments will be available for playing at six pm nightly. The cost for these tournaments is $200. There are also mega satellites being played daily.
There will also be a ladies event this year the Ladies No-Limit Hold’em championship. The buy-in for the event is $230. The greatest prize of all however will go to the winner of the Main Event. That person will win a seat to the 2008 WSOP $10,000 buy-in championship event. This event will be held next summer in Sin City. A diamond and gold ring will also be the prize for the winner.
“Winning an event at the World Series of Poker is the ultimate prize for all poker players,†said Janis Sexton, Tournament Director. “But the World Series of Poker is now much more than just the Las Vegas event. It has evolved into a year-around attraction and has even been played overseas. We are thrilled that poker players here in the northwest can now experience the same excitement that they see in Las Vegas and on television – but much closer to home.â€
