Jamie Gold who claims he wants to be the “best bluffer in the world,” tried once again to prove that point on an episode of High Stakes Poker. In these episodes, the nut in has been raised from $100,000 to $500,000 bringing the total cash at the table to an astounding $5 million dollars.
In this hand, billionaire Guy Laliberte was holding AJ and flopped a pair of aces. He bet $12,000 and Gold raised to $32,000 with nothing. Laliberte re-raised to $84,000 and Gold promptly folded but showed id 84 suited.
This lead the host, Gabe Kaplan, a chance to enlighten the viewing audience with the sage advice, “Lesson No. 1 for the potentially best bluffer in the world: don’t try to bluff billionaires.”
Not to worry, Jamie Gold got in more practice later on with Texas Dolly himself, Doyle Brunson. With both players turning the flush, Gold with 97 suited and Brunson with T8 suited. Doyle bet out $25,000 and Gold raised to $125,000 and after some thought Doyle Brunson did lay down the best hand.
The big winner was the only amateur at the table, billionaire businessman, Guy Laliberte. Hitting several huge river cards to take down big pots and after one particular runner runner flush hit, lead Doyle Brunson to say, “I hate Canadians. I think if you’re not an American citizen you shouldn’t be allowed to play in this game.” Of course it was said with a big Texas smile on his face.
