At the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP), there were many hopeful players all looking for the same thing…first place.
Event No. 18, was a $500 buy-in (with $30 entry fee), and was a seven-card stud eight-or-better tournament with a hefty $200,000 guarantee.
It played out as usual, with a lot of skill, talent, and determined individuals all trying to be the best. But does it always pay the most to be in first place? One would think so but as it turns out, 3rd place winner crazyjane received more money the 1st place winner.
How could that be? Well it’s simple; it all resulted from an agreement between the players. With three players remaining left in the event, crazyjane had a big chip lead, and so received the highest amount when PokerStars support presented the figures.
Obviously not knowing how the game would turn out, BigLL thought hard about it and decided to go ahead and take the deal. But soon learned that was a mistake.
Crazyjane quickly earned $49,473, taking third place, when she lost her lead but that was much better then the $25,714 she would have earned if BigLL hadn’t agreed to the deal.
BigLL got $48,367 for his win but is sadly $21,748.50 less then the original announced first prize. $38,712 was given to runner-up mysticaces.
