The Edge is a sleek, handheld, stand alone wireless unit with built-in modem functioning at DSL-type speed (more than 10 times the speed of current mobile devices). It displays HTML web page with graphics, banner ads, java applets, JPEG images and GIF images with the original formatting, across a 9.6kbps wireless cellular modem in less than 3 seconds.
And because is has the memory to render full web-pages and a full VGA screen size in an easy-to-view 640 Pixel format, it makes it ideal for graphics-intensive web content, like online poker games! Plus you do not have a micro keyboard to fumble with to type in your chat messages, like you do now with other mobile devices.
“The Edge exemplifies everything an experience using an ultra-mobile web-based wireless unit should be – and more,” commented Edgetech CEO, Lev Parnas.
The Edge is loaded with special features like a back-lit keyboard, USB port, memory stick, and built-in GPS locator device. It also includes a hibernation or ‘sleep’ mode, maintaining the device at internet-ready status, thus eliminating the initializing process before the unit can operate for the user.
Future options promised include an MP3 player, a video memory stick for downloading streaming video, and a global SIM card enabling usage of The Edge virtually worldwide.
